			<description>&lt;p&gt;Workers and small business owners have been petitioning lawmakers in Connecticut to raise the minimum wage in the state. The legal amount now stands at $8.25 an hour, or $17,000 a year for a full-time employee. On February 28&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;, the room was packed at the state capital as the bill was proposed before the labor committee. They requested that minimum wage be raised to $9 an hour in July of this year and increased again to $9.75 in July of 2013. On one side, proponents state that increasing the minimum wage would help boost the economy as well as close the gap between rich and poor. Opponents, however, state that it will discourage employers from hiring new employees.&lt;/p&gt;
